Auger de Balben succeeded Raymond du Puy in the mid-twelfth century.
Life and service to the Order
He led the Hospitallers during a short transitional period after Raymond’s long mastership. The surviving accounts of his tenure are limited; his place in the succession records the continuity of the Order’s hospital community in Jerusalem.
In this period the Hospitallers maintained a hospital and defended their communities in the Holy Land. Their base shifted to Acre after the loss of Jerusalem, and to Cyprus after the fall of Acre in 1291.
