Jacques de Milly succeeded Jean de Lastic in 1454.

Life and service to the Order

He governed the Order from Rhodes in an era of growing Ottoman pressure following the conquest of Constantinople.

Rhodes provided the Order with a new island headquarters after its departure from the Holy Land. Its masters balanced hospitaller service, maritime defence and the government of a fortified Mediterranean state.
