One knight painted in the vault of St John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta is traditionally identified as Fra Ferrandino Camuto de Burgio. The story associates him with Nicasius as a brother in the Order and says that he died defending Christians in the Holy Land in 1187. The identification and the details of this account remain uncertain.
The figure wears armour marked with the white cross and points toward the scene above him. The nineteenth-century Brocktorff–Cuschieri lithographs label him “St Ferrandino”. Cynthia de Giorgio notes that his inclusion among the vault’s heroes and blesseds is not clearly explained by the early histories. The artistic title should be read as evidence of a tradition, not on its own as proof of formal canonization.
