Brief Biography
Martin Garzes was a Spanish knight of Aragon who succeeded Hugues Loubenx de Verdala in 1595.

Life and service to the Order
He governed Malta until his death in 1601; his armour is preserved in the Palace Armoury in Valletta.
On Malta the Order developed hospitals, fortifications and a maritime presence while governing the islands. Its religious and charitable purposes continued alongside these public responsibilities.
