Brief Biography
Armengol de Aspa led the Hospitallers after the disaster of 1187, when Saladin's forces took Jerusalem.

Life and service to the Order
Serving initially as provisor, he guided the Order as its centre of activity shifted towards Acre; later lists count him as the ninth Grand Master.
In this period the Hospitallers maintained a hospital and defended their communities in the Holy Land. Their base shifted to Acre after the loss of Jerusalem, and to Cyprus after the fall of Acre in 1291.
